Fear is a feeling induced by perceived danger or treat, which causes physiological changes and ultimately  changes to the behavior, such as fleeing, hiding, or freezing from a traumatic events
Fear is closely related to the emotion anxiety, which occurs as the result of threats that are perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable. Research has shown participants were able to recognize the facial expression of fear significantly better on a male face than on a female face. Females also recognized fear generally better than males.
An irrational fear is called a phobia.
Fear of victimization is a function of perceived risk and seriousness.
Fear of the unknown or irrational fear is caused by negative thinking (worry) which arises from anxiety accompanied with a subjective sense of apprehension or dread.
